S&W Race Cars was founded in 1959, by Walt Weney in Spring City PA,, as a speed shop in a small 15 x 20 foot basement. During his spare time, Walt put his welding and sheet metal skills to use - first on his own car - then on his customers race cars. Through his experience on the track, and in his shop, Walt honed the art of race car fabrication into a precise science and a full-time occupation.
In 1964, S&W Race Cars moved out of the basement and into a 2,000 square foot, three bay chassis shop.
In 1973, expansion again hit S&W Race Cars, as Walt and his staff of eight full time employees, moved into a new 7,200 square foot, state-of-the-art chassis shop.
In 1984, S&W purchased SRD Race Cars. SRD's history of excellence in the construction of full bodied race cars, would enable S&W, already established as one of the country's top dragster & funny car builders, to become a premier "doorslammer" chassis manufacturer , an area that had been an SRD speciality. The acquisition of SRD's patterns, jigs fixture and machinery also allowed S&W to expand its product line and become a major force in the mail-order chassis component arena.
February, 1988 saw S&W Race Cars move into their current building - a modern, two story, 16,000 square foot facility situated on five acres of land. The new, greatly enlarged manufacturing area in this facility has immensely increased S&W's production capability. The larger shipping, receiving and warehousing areas allow S&W to expedite orders quickly and more efficiently. A customized computer system allows S&W Race Cars a quicker turnaround time on customer orders as well as excellent inventory control capabilities.
In 1990 S&W opened it's own in-house advertising department, featuring the latest in Macintosh computers and desktop publishing software. Now all S&W catalogs, sale flyers, advertising, newsletters and product instruction sheets are done "in-house", allowing S&W to instantly respond to the ever changing race car market. Also, for customer convenience S&W installed a 24 hour FAX line (610-948-7342) and a toll free order line (1-800-523-3353).
Remodeling of the offices took place in 1993. The second floor was redone to include the advertising department as well as a totally revamped engineering department featuring the latest in CAD workstations and software technology. This improvement gives S&W complete, "in-house" control of all components manufactured and sold by S&W Race Cars as well as the ability to work more closely with outside manufacturers in the design and production of the components of the future.
The 1994 open house, saw the grand opening of S&W's latest addition, an 11,000 square foot expansion of the manufacturing, warehousing and shipping department, allowing S&W to again increase inventory levels, increasing availability of parts to the customer.
The racing & high performance world revolves around ever-changing technology and that technology is one of the keys in designing, producing and delivering championship quality components. In recent years S&W has added Pro-E to it's design software packages, added 2 new Flow waterjets , a Haas turning center and a Fadel machining center to it's manufacturing hardware and completely updated it's phone and computer server's in the shipping department and sale's offices. Most recently, S&W has launched it's all new, e-commerce friendly web site (www.swracecars.com) making it possible for S&W customers world wide to order S&W components 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
