Kelli Barbatos New SW Blog

Posted on Friday, March 02, 2018 Categories: Kelli Barbato Blog

Hey readers!  Thanks so much for checking out my brand new blog!  My name is Kelli Barbato and some of you may have seen me cruising the pits in my 1968 Chevrolet Camaro that I compete with in Super Street.  I love my Super Street car but this year the Barbato Racing team of my dad and me decided that it was time to add another horse to the stable.  Enter our newest project---a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro.  Not only is this our newest project but it formerly was my daily driver and before that it was my dad's 40th birthday gift from my mom.  Yup, this car has been in my family since new--24 years this April.  It has so much sentimental value that when it was starting to get up there in miles we decided it would make a great racecar.

So now the fun part...building a racecar from a street car.  Where do you start?!?  After seeing the success of Kaitlyn Krause with her very similar but much faster Camaro we talked with her and her dad Randy and we were convinced that S&W bolt on products were the best way to go to make our stock Camaro strong enough to house triple the horsepower it's used to and turn on win lights while doing it.

After about two years of finding the time and funds to start this project, the time has come to finally bring the car in the garage and begin the teardown.

Last weekend we instated the S&W bolt on subframe connectors in a Sunday afternoon.  Yup, it was that easy.  Amateur tip---having two people helps but is not necessary; a jack is definitely helpful no matter what.  As you can see we left the center undone for now as we're also installing new seats.  You can also see that the whole kit makes under the car just look plain cool!  Next up, the S&W bolt in 9in rear (thanks, Santa).

And that about wraps up my first blog.  I want to thank S&W Performance Group for this great opportunity to share with you my year of simultaneously racing one car and building another.  I'll check in as much as possible with my "budget build" as time allows while also keeping those two .90 cars in check.  Thanks again for reading!

Congrats to you and S&W Race Cars. It is a most welcome sight to see more women with there own performance cars/bikes. I have noticed this over the last couple of years. It truly is about time. I know they are out there, it is just nice to finally see more women in print/cable.

Keep it up Kelli, just make sure you go faster than your Dad, Jake!

Hi, Kelli. good job on the new blog! Just curious about this car, is it the one you and your dad was involved with at maple grove's 11:50 index race? Good luck and see you both soon!

Thanks, everyone!

John, yes there are a few of us out there and our numbers grow every year! We just want to race!

Ed, Dad will probably always be faster than me :)

Keith, yup, this is going to be the 11.50 car, now we can battle in that class too!
